Cardinals 8 Athletics 0

Monday July 27, Conant Park

The Athletics were rolling heading into their meeting vs the Cardinals on July 27,  scoring 10 runs per game while winning four consecutive games. The Cardinals continued their “dirty bird” style of play limiting opponents with solid defense and excellent pitching.

Nick Berry pitched the opening two innings for the Athletics with Brody MacMaster finishing strong on the bump for the green and yellow. MacMaster, Jay Dennison, Cadel McKeown, Nate Sullivan and Michael Martin all had hits for the Athletics. The Athletics defense was led by Jack Thompson, Boden Dormer, Joseph Fauci and Dylan Mestjian.

Chris Repici turned in yet another great performance pitching for the Cardinals, scattering four hits and striking out 11 batters over five strong innings. Brady Yee lead the offense with three hits and crossing the plate three times. Nate Geer followed with a single and double of his own. Alec Truesdale stays hot at the plate with another multi-hit game. Brayden Pesce and John Strong added hits of their own while Jack Sarazen has been fantastic at first base. Defensively, the Red Birds’ Nolan Clark and Cameron Orlandella played strong fundamental outfield defense.

The Cardinals improved to 6-0 on the season.

Marlins 11 Dodgers 2

Monday July 27, Lewis Monk Field

The major league Marlins exploded for 11 runs and pulled away from Dodgers to notch their first win of the season. The game was played at historic Lewis Monk Field on a warm July evening. The Marlins had strong pitching all night with Jack Feeney, Liam O’Brien and John Recinito combining for five strikeouts while holding the Dodgers to four hits. Solid infield play by Brian Fogerty, Cam Doyle and Peyton Oreste supported the strong pitching performance.

The Dodgers likewise got strong pitching from Reon Anderson, who pitched three solid innings with serval strikeouts. Dodger defense was carried by veterans Josh Bird, Sam Federico and Jameson Cunningham who had several putouts. Ian McKeown, Cole Nault and Bryson Penrose battled for the Dodgers all scoring runs that evening. Chris Beaudet, Derek Falasca and Seth Levine did their part to keep the Dodgers’ rallies alive, reaching base throughout the game.

After struggling to score all season, the Marlins offense came alive. Gabe Klapman, Ronan Sanzone, and Jayden Jengro all scoring multiple times. Robert Pino and Matty Beshal combined for four RBI’s. The Marlins have split their season series to date with each team winning a game, The teams will meet again on August 14.

Cardinals 7 White Sox 2

Friday July 31, Conant Field

The White Sox, who always battle from the first pitch to the final out, played the Cardinals in a very competitive major league baseball game at Conant Field. White Sox Starter, Brian Capodilupo turned in two solid innings on the mound, and Tyler Garipay finishing the game strong with three efficient innings. Garipay, CJ Cook, and Will Kennedy had hits for the Pale Hose. Richie Harrison, Mike Obremski, Mike Fix and Colton Sullivan had solid at bats. Jack Ludlow was strong behind the plate while Nate Zimmerman, Shane Pitcher, Cian Sullivan all played great defense.

Nate Geer was locked in on the mound for the Cardinals holding the Sox to two runs in the top of the 1st.  Allowing three hits, two walks and seven k’s through 5.1 innings.

Chris Repici went yard with a two-run shot to dead center to put the Cards up by one run. Brayden Pesce and Jack Sarazen both had hits in the home half of the 1st to push another run across. Brady Yee continued his dominance at second base and John Strong was solid at third.  Alec Truesdale, Nolan Clark and Cam Orlandella stayed at the ready in the outfield but the Red Birds pitching made it a quiet night for them.

Brady Yee closed it out on the hill once Geer hit 85 pitches.

Minors

Tigers 3, Angels 2

Tuesday July 28, at Lewis Monk Field

The Tigers put together a late game comeback to beat the Angels 3-2 in minor league play on Tuesday, July 28 at Conant Field.

The Angels got a run in the 1st inning when Brendan Burke singled and eventually scored. He also added an RBI in the top of the 5th inning to score Kai Smith. The Angels offense got hits from Brendan Burke (2), Jack Skinner, and Will Goodwin, while Aiden Smith and Ryan Sheridan also reached base. The Angels defense was led by great pitching from Brendan Burke and Jack Skinner, who combined to throw 13 strikeouts. Teddy Aldrich and Oliver Kotowicz also showed great hustle.

The Tigers threw for 14 strikeouts as Dhewa Tenzin, Bryce Phillips, Koji Bachner, and Dylan Smith all saw time on the mound. Sam Gentile, Oliver Swanson, Parker Sarata, Kevin Liu, and Connor Adamovich provided great defensive back-up. The Tigers offense tied the game in the bottom of the 5th when Dylan Smith hit a two-run homer following a Bryce Phillips single. Then, Christopher Rowe led off the bottom of the 6th inning with a walk and scored the winning run when Dhewa Tenzin hit a walk-off, RBI single.
