Townshend, Cosgrove represented Council #104 DUDLEY — On Nov. 15, the Knights of Columbus had the Soccer Challenge State Finals for boys and girls, ages 9-14, at Nichols College in Dudley. Wakefield Council #104 had two boys representing it in the finals and both emerged as state champs. William Townshend, age 10, scored 235 points to win and Liam Cosgrove, age 12, scored 240 points to win. These were the two highest scores for all the boys who competed. Worked at McDonald’s, enjoyed baseball, softball   READING — Wayne A. Beckett, a lifelong resident of Reading, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, Nov. 25. He was 64 years of age. Raised in Reading, Wayne was the beloved son of Ruth D. (Lofberg) Beckett and the late Arthur E. Beckett. Wayne was a kind and gentle soul who loved spending time with his family watching local baseball and softball games and going to barbecues at his brother’s house. Wayne was known around town as the “Fry-Man” because he was in charge of cooking the french fries at the McDonalds in Reading where he had worked for 18 years. Worked for Perini Construction, DPW; member of Crystal Community Club   WAKEFIELD — Joseph S. Bonomo, 79, of Wakefield died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014 at his home. Born in Wakefield on Sept. 30, 1935 he was the son of the late Joseph and Angelina (Mocciaro) Bonomo. Mr. Bonomo was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1955. He had worked for Perini Construction Company for 25 years and was a foreman for the Marine Division and was a member of Local #56. He later worked for the Wakefield DPW for 10 years before his retirement. Mr. Bonomo had been a member of the Crystal Community Club and was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved to garden. World War II veteran enjoyed golf, traveling   WAKEFIELD — Charles E. Martin, 90, of Wakefield died Monday, Nov. 24, 2014 in Melrose after a long period of failing health. He was born in Somerville on Oct. 8, 1924 and was the son of the late Daniel and Grace W. (Maw) Martin. Mr. Martin was raised in Somerville and attended Somerville public schools. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for three years in Europe during World War II. Upon returning home, he continued his service by joining the Massachusetts National Guard, where he remained for 28 years prior to his retirement. MELROSE — As the holiday season begins, Mayor Rob Dolan is once again making the annual appeal for donations to the Melrose Emergency Fund. The members of the Temple Beth Shalom Sisterhood were among the first to step forward with a donation. “I want to thank Temple Beth Shalom Sisterhood and all those who choose to remember their neighbors in need at this time,” said Mayor Rob Dolan. “The holiday season is a time when many of us pause to be thankful for what we have and to remember those who are less fortunate.
