Warriors prevail 9-6 after topping Medford for third straight win By JIM SOUTHMAYD WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield Memorial High girls’ lacrosse won two games in two days. However the way the victories came were in quite a contrast to each other. On Tuesday afternoon at Landrigan Field, the Warriors prevailed in a high-scoring 14-12 game over Medford. However yesterday afternoon at Landrigan, it was Wakefield’s defense which took center stage, especially in the second half, as the Warriors posted a 9-6 triumph over Arlington. Wakefield increased its record 6-4 overall and it is now 2-4 in the Middlesex League Freedom division. Warriors come up short to Arlington, 4-3 By DAN MARGARITA ARLINGTON — The Wakefield Memorial High softball team traveled to Arlington yesterday and, despite a fine pitching performance from Amanda Boulter, lost 4-3 to the Spy Ponders at Arlington High School. It was Wakefield’s second straight loss as the Warriors fell to 6-3 overall on the season. It was also the second straight one-run defeat for the Warriors. “I don’t blame any of the kids. WAKEFIELD — Wakefield resident Kyle Anne Rush lost her fight to her illness on April 27 at the age of 19. Kyle was the beloved daughter of John F. and Catherine Rush. She was the loving sister to John, Gregory, Scott, Mary, Meghan, Samantha, Brandon, Daniel and late Colin J. Rush. Although she struggled for many years, she embraced the world for all that it was with a passion unmatched by most. Kyle graduated from Wakefield Memorial High School in 2013. She was a co-founder of the WMHS Varsity Girls’ Volleyball Team, member of WMHS Color Guard, WMHS Girls’ JV Women’s’ Ice Hockey, WMHS Track, WMHS Sign Language club, WMHS Social Awareness club, as well as a member of the Wakefield White Sox. Served in U.S. Marine Corps LONDONDERRY, N.H. — Robert F. “Bob” Shea, 78, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, formerly of Melrose, passed away on April 26. Bob was born in Melrose on April 1, 1937 to Joseph and Margaret (O’Leary) Shea. He graduated from Malden Catholic in 1955 and went on to enlist in the United States Marine Corps, where he honorably served his country from 1957-1961. After serving in the Marines, Bob spent many years working as a truck driver for United Liquors, and was also a member of the Teamsters Union. READING — Joyce M. Curran, 89, of Wakefield formerly of Spring Hill, Fla. died on Sunday, April 26 at the Wingate at Reading. Born in England on July 5, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Frederick G. and Margaret (Smith) Warwick. Joyce was raised in Portsmouth, England. She married her husband Leo in Belgium in 1945 while she was serving in the English Army and he was serving in the United States Army. Joyce was a longtime Wakefield resident before moving to Florida. She was a crossing guard for the town of Wakefield for 25 years.
