Local man charged with dealing drugs...

Published in the August 31, 2015 edition WAKEFIELD — A 43-year-old Kendrick Road man was arrested at about 4 p.m. on Friday on multiple drug charges including intent to distribute. Wakefield Police detectives had Anthony Lacava under surveillance for a period of time before obtaining a search warrant for his vehicle and residence. Late on Friday afternoon, local detectives along with area detectives from the regional Drug Task Force observed a white male enter the passenger seat of Lacava’s 2000 Honda Accord while parked on New Salem Street. The man stayed for about a minute before exiting the vehicle. Believing a drug sale had occurred, two detectives spoke to the man who exited the vehicle while other members of the task force stopped Lacava’s car at the corner of New Salem and Vernon streets....

Razing North Ave. house eyed

Published in the August 31, 2015 edition WAKEFIELD — In April, the Lakeside Cemetery’s Board of Trustees saw a 40-year tenant move out of the red house at 509 North Ave. Board members and Superintendent Phil Callahan did a walk-through of the small 185-year-old building and found several structural problems. The trustees thought the issues may be too expensive to repair. They asked contractors for their opinion and were basically told to tear the house down. But before that happens, the Historical Commission will hold a hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 15, to determine whether the demolition of the house would be detrimental to the historical or architectural resources of the town. Warrior Club holds 11th annual golf tournament...

Event raises $23,000 for football program Published in the August 31, 2015 edition BEVERLY —  The 11th Annual Warrior Club Golf Tournament was held on Monday, Aug. 3 at the Beverly Golf & Tennis Club in Beverly. For the second year in a row, the tournament sold out with 121 golfers — each excited to enjoy a great day, with great friends, for a great cause — supporting the 2015 Wakefield Memorial High School football program. The weather could not have been better and the conditions led to success on the course and in the Warrior Club’s fundraising efforts. After the last putt was made and the final silent auction item won, the event yielded over $23,000 for the benefit of Wakefield student-athletes in the football program. Think Taylor: Concussion awareness week is Sept. 21-25...

Published in the August 31, 2015 edition FRANKLIN — The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association announced a new initiative on Aug. 26 entering into partnership with former Revolution star Taylor Twellman’s foundation, Think Taylor, and soccer equipment company INARIA to introduce Concussion Awareness Week. The initiative is aimed at better educating soccer players, parents, coaches and trainers on concussion injuries and proper treatment and will take place at all MIAA schools hosting boys’ and girls’ soccer games during the week of Sept. 21-25.
