Common lights lit Friday

Published in the November 30, 2015 edition. WAKEFIELD — Mark this Friday evening on your calendars. Wakefield’s traditional lighting of the Christmas lights on the Veterans Memorial Common will take place Friday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. The annual festivities, sponsored by the Wakefield Center Neighborhood Association, will begin at 6:30 p.m. with traditional Christmas music and caroling provided by the Nazareth Academy Trinity Ensemble under the direction of Ms. Lora Tamagini. Frosty the Snowman has once again promised to make an appearance for the children and will lead everyone in the countdown to light the lights. More music will follow the lighting of the lights at 7 p.m. while Frosty circulates through the crowd greeting his younger friends. OUI arrest made

Published in the November 30, 2015 edition. WAKEFIELD — One arrest for OUI and two for outstanding warrants highlighted an otherwise relatively quiet weekend for local police. Last night just before 10 police said they stopped a 54-year-old Collette Road man after seeing him take a right from Water Street onto Main Street in a white Ford SUV while the light was red. David Frisiello, 15 Collette Rd., was charged with a right on red violation as well as for operating under the influence of liquor following an investigation by police. ————— A 37-year-old Melrose man was arrested on an outstanding warrant after a caller reported seeing a suspicious man with a flashlight walking around the area of Renwick Road just after 7 p.m. Friday. ————— Police arrested a 53-year-old Wakefield man at about...

At K of C State Championship Soccer Finals Published in the November 30, 2015 edition. DUDLEY — The Wakefield Knights of Columbus, Council #104, had two brothers competing in the K of C State Championship Soccer Finals on Sunday, Nov. 15 at Nichols College in Dudley. Winning the 13-year-old boys competition was Liam Cosgrove and finishing second in the 12-year-old division was Logan Cosgrove. This is the second straight year that Liam has won the title, and as an 11-year-old, he finished in second place. Another Wakefield boy, William Townshend had also won the state title for two consecutive years but he was unable to attend this year after qualifying for the final. Wakefield’s Suzy Macero captures women’s title Published in the November 30, 2015 edition. WAKEFIELD — The sixth annual AMPT “Earn your Turkey” 5K had a huge turnout on Thanksgiving morning as over 900 runners competed and finished the race which was held around Lake Quannapowitt. Wakefield’s Suzy Macero, 42, was the female winner of the race in a time of 19:30, while Wilmington’s Carl Hartford, 30, repeated as champion in the men’s race at 15:58. Wakefield’s Ryan Kerrigan, 35, came in third in the men’s race in a time of 17:12. Taking second was Melrose’s Tom O’Donnell, 20, at 16:59.
