(Muise) Brooks, 87, a longtime resident of Wakefield, entered into eternal life on Thursday, Nov. 26, at the Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford following an extended illness. Lena was born in Wakefield on Sept. 7, 1928, a daughter of the late William H. and Frances R. (Robicheau) Muise. She grew up in Wakefield where she was educated in the Wakefield Public School system. Lena lived the majority of her life in Wakefield but she also lived in Hacienda Heights, Calif. for eight years and Charlestown for 12 years. After living with her twin sister in California, Lena returned to Massachusetts and started working as a confectionary inspector for the NECCO Candy Company until she retired after 25 years. Published in the November 30, 2015 edition. WAKEFIELD — Anne E. (Boncek) Roberts, known as “Babchi Anne,” died on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015 in Wakefield. Anne was born April 24, 1916 in Greenfield, the daughter of John Boncek and Bolestava Murzn Boncek (Polish immigrants), settling in Greenfield. John was one of the co-founders and builder of the early Sacred Heart Parish. Anne’s early years growing up were spent in Meriden and New Haven, Conn. She married Ralph L. Roberts Jr. of Bowling Green, Fla. in 1940. Ralph was a World War II Marine and then a farmer and rancher. Anne is survived by her son, Ralph L. Roberts III, Ph.D, and his wife Debra of Cincinnati, Ohio (Ralph served in the 82nd Airborne Division), and her daughter, Patricia A. McDonough and her husband Michael...

This year it was 50 degrees with bright sunshine at Fred Green Memorial Field for the 56th annual Thanksgiving Day Classic between the Wakefield Memorial High and Melrose High football teams. Last year Wakefield scored first on a dramatic 85 yard return of the opening kickoff by Tighe Beck. This year Wakefield scored last on a dramatic 70 yard touchdown catch and run by Beck off a pass from quarterback Ned Buckley. Last year the game was nip and tuck, with Super Bowl-bound Melrose pulling out a 15-14 win in the game’s waning moments. By MARK SARDELLA WAKEFIELD — Wakefield’s three state legislators spent more than an hour with the School Committee last night, engaging in a wide ranging discussion of education-related topics from the Chapter 70 funding formula to high stakes testing and the PARCC vs. MCAS debate. Joining Rep. Paul Brodeur and Rep. Donald Wong, Sen. Jason Lewis began by summarizing the conclusions of the Foundation Budget Review Commission that recently wrapped up its review of the Chapter 70 formula and issued its recommendations. Lewis noted that the Chapter 70 formula for distributing state aid to public education was created in 1993 under Education Reform Law.
