But the weather did not dampen the spirit of those who organized and attended those ceremonies held at the West Side Social Club and the Galvin Middle School. Normally held at 10 a.m. on Moulton Field, the West Side Social Club moved its program into the club’s Anderson Hall. Holdup investigated

Published in the May 31, 2016 edition. WAKEFIELD — Police are investigating a possible armed robbery after several local youths reported being held up by a man on Main Street early Monday morning. The three juveniles told police that they were walking down main Street near JJ Round at about 12:30 a.m. when a man approached them and demanded the hoverboard that one of the juveniles was carrying as well as their cell phones and wallets. One of the juveniles said that he observed a knife in the man’s back pocket but no weapon was shown in the incident. The youths said that they took off running, leaving the hoverboard and some of their other personal belongings behind. They told police that they did see the man exit JJ Round in a black Kia...

Boys’ track team crowns two champs...

Russo wins javelin, 4×800 relay team takes first at Div. 3 state meet Published in the May 31, 2016 edition. BURLINGTON — The Wakefield Memorial High boys’ track team had two champions crowned, a host of place winners and a total of 39 points scored as it has a terrific showing in the Div. 3 state meet which was held Saturday at Burlington High School. Senior Kevin Russo and the 4×800 relay team came in first with Russo winning the javelin with a throw of 187-01 and the 4×800 relay team of senior Alec Rodgers, junior Adam Roberto, junior Ryan Sullivan and sophomore Matt Greatorex clocking in at 8:10.36. The Warriors also came in seventh overall in the team scoring with a total of 39 points. Host Burlington won the meet with 78 points....

George M. Ball, 67

Published in the May 31, 2016 edition. WAKEFIELD — George Moses Ball, loving husband, devoted father and lifelong resident of Wakefield, died unexpectedly at home on May 25 at the age of 67. George is survived by his loving wife, Anne (Cocivera) Ball; children, David Ball and his wife Andrea Warchol of Wakefield, Steven Ball and his wife Emily (Byam) of Plymouth, N.H. and Cara Saw and her husband William of Tewksbury. George was a grandfather to Wesley and Abigail Ball, who lovingly referred to him as “Beep.” He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Perkins and her husband Ralph of Milton-Freewater, Ore., and Susan Delano and her husband Robert of Falmouth; sister-in-law Mary C.
