Selectmen OK traffic measures

By MARK SARDELLA WAKEFIELD — The Board of Selectmen this week approved a number of requests from the Traffic Advisory Committee (TAC) to remedy issues brought to their attention by citizens. The selectmen approved the TAC’s recommendation for a “Stop” sign on Gumwood Lane at the intersection with Andrews Road. This is a “T” type intersection and the TAC felt that a “Stop” sign was warranted at this location. The TAC also addressed a request from a citizen for a remedy to prevent northbound traffic on Main Street from blocking Pearl Street. When northbound traffic on Main Street is stopped at the traffic light at the intersection with Salem Street, a back-up often occurs that prevents southbound vehicles from making a left turn onto Pearl Street. Wakefield field hockey picks up huge win over Melrose...

Warriors’ hard work pays off with 4-0 win Published in the September 29, 2017 edition. MELROSE — The WMHS field hockey team took a business trip to Melrose on Wednesday afternoon, looking for a big league win over their rivals. They got it. The Warriors shut out the Red Raiders 4-0, in a balanced attack as Wakefield got goals from senior captains Olivia Cameron and Vanessa Kaddaras, as well as sophomores Erin Heffernan and Annabella Forziati.  While the goal scorers should certainly be proud of the games they had, it was the Warrior defense along with junior goalie Alexa Pesce who were the stars in this one. M. Eleanor Garvin, 82

Published in the September 29, 2017 edition. WAKEFIELD — M. Eleanor (McCarthy) Garvin, 82, passed into eternal peace on Sunday, September 24, at her favorite place, her home in Wakefield. She leaves to mourn and  celebrate her memory, her husband of 60 years and dearest friend, Laurence G. Garvin; daughters Maryann Uggerholt of Andover, Sheila Carter and husband Michael of Wilmington, Andrea Garbarino of Reading; and son John of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren Craig, Kathryn, and Kimberly Uggerholt, Kevin and Julia Carter, and Laura, Alayna, Maria, Albert, Michael and Alicia Garbarino. She considered her children and grandchildren to be her greatest accomplishments, but she has so many more.
