Downtown pot shop sparks interest...

Published February 1, 2019 MELROSE — As the new world of legalized adult-use marijuana continues to spin, some city officials this week turned their eyes to downtown Melrose as a possible home to a recreational pot shop. Main Street south of City Hall to Grove Street and north from Winthrop Street to hospital square were mentioned Monday as a potential location for a facility having something to do with the recreational use of marijuana. This alternative came up after an originally-mentioned stretch of Washington Street on the Malden line drew much flak from residents, who said traffic would increase and their safety would be endangered if a recreational marijuana facility went in. ‘Madam President’ game donated to the library...

Published February 1, 2019 MELROSE — Lily Polito got a lot of great presents this past Christmas. She had her wish list, like anyone, but there was one gift that she hadn’t expected and actually had never heard of before: The Madam President Game. It was her favorite present! After dinner on Christmas, Lily, her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who are all Melrose residents, decided to play The Madam President game for the first time. She loved playing the game. Her grandmother won and became President, but she did name Lily the Vice-President, and she plans on winning and being President next time she plays.
