School needs hashed out

By MARK SARDELLA WAKEFIELD — The several dozen parents and citizens who came out for last night’s State of the Schools report and budget forum got a chance to hear about the district’s budgetary needs and priorities. But following School Superintendent Douglas Lyons presentation, the question and answer session quickly turned into a passionate debate over the need for a new high school and whether the town should consider moving forward on its own without state assistance. Lyons noted that Wakefield will soon be resubmitting its Statement of Interest (SOI) to the Massachusetts School Building Authority in hopes of getting state financial assistance in building a new high school or renovating the current one.
