SAUGUS — The WMHS boys’ basketball team celebrated their season at the annual banquet held on March 26.

The Warriors had a strong year in which they finished the regular season with a 14-6 record and a Freedom Division Championship.

Wakefield earned a No. 4 seed in the Div. 2 North Tournament and was topped by Reading 56-53 in the first round.

The Warriors were led by a strong senior class including the Middlesex League’s Freedom Division MVP Billy O’Keefe, Middlesex League All-Star, captain Aidan Cusack, Patrick Hannigan, Jack Matuszewski and Brian McGunigle.

Wakefield also had a terrific group of juniors including Middlesex League All-Star, captain Ryan Marcus, Michael O’Keefe, Quinn Bayers, Patrick Collins and Chris Miller.

At their banquet, the Warriors distributed team awards.

Earning Most Valuable Player was Billy O’Keefe.

The Patrick Gannon Award, named after the longtime manager and scorekeeper for Wakefield Basketball, was presented to Aidan Cusack for his loyolty, support and commitment to the program.

Best Offensive Player went to Patrick Hannigan.

Best Defensive Player went to Michael O’Keefe.

Best All-Around Player went to Ryan Marcus for the second year in a row.

Coaches Awards were earned by Brian McGunigle and Jack Matuszewski.

The Unsung Hero Award went to Lucas Smith.

The Warriors also elected their captains for the 2019-20 season. Back to lead the Warriors again next year as a captain will be Ryan Marcus. He will be joined by classmates Quinn Bayers and Pat Collins.
