MELROSE — As the holiday season begins, Mayor Rob Dolan is once again making the annual appeal for donations to the Melrose Emergency Fund. The members of the Temple Beth Shalom Sisterhood were among the first to step forward with a donation.

“I want to thank Temple Beth Shalom Sisterhood and all those who choose to remember their neighbors in need at this time,” said Mayor Rob Dolan. “The holiday season is a time when many of us pause to be thankful for what we have and to remember those who are less fortunate. The Emergency Fund allows us to reach out a helping hand to everyone in the community in times of need.”

The Emergency Fund provides one-time help to Melrose residents experiencing financial emergencies. The focus is on basic needs — food, fuel and utilities. “My goal is that no one in Melrose will go cold or hungry,” Dolan said. Every penny of every donation goes directly to aid, with no administrative costs and the fund administrator makes referrals to other local agencies if needed.

During this holiday fund-raiser, names of the donors will be published every week.

To make a donation, send a check to Melrose Emergency Fund, Mayor’s Office, 562 Main St., Melrose MA 02176 or bring it directly to the Mayor’s Office on the second floor of City Hall. Checks should be made out to the City of Melrose, with “Melrose Emergency Fund” in the memo line. For more information about the fund, call 781-979-4440.
