MELROSE — The City of Melrose is moving cautiously into Phase 3 of Governor Baker’s reopening plan, with City Hall closed but staffed, the library offering contact-less pickup, and the dog park open at last.

“We are moving forward with a very deliberate pace,” said Mayor Paul Brodeur. “We have seen the results of reopening too quickly in many cities and states around the country, and we will not let that happen here. The safety of our employees and our residents continues to be paramount. It is precisely because Melrosians have done such a good job of keeping the virus at bay—by staying in, wearing masks when out, and social distancing—that we are able to take this step, and we don’t want to reverse our hard work.”

As of July 6, all City Hall offices are partially staffed, in accordance with the governor’s guidelines. Staff are wearing masks when away from their desks and limiting face-to-face meetings. City Hall is not open to the public at this time but residents can reach out to individual offices by phone or e-mail and can conduct much city business online, using the city website, www.cityofmelrose.org.

The Melrose Public Library is now offering a Front Door Pickup service. Residents can request a book via the Noble catalog, https://melrose.noblenet.org/eg/opac/home, or by calling 781-665-2313 and leaving a message. When the items are ready, the resident will be notified and can schedule a pickup time via the library’s event calendar, https://melrosepubliclibrary.assabetinteractive.com/calendar/2020-july/?filter-categories[]=front-door-pickup, or by calling the library. The items will be in a labeled bag, and residents must wear a face mask or covering and follow social distancing protocols while making the pickup. Books can be returned via the book drop next to the library parking lot.

The dog park is now open, and all the nets have been put up at the tennis courts on Crystal and Tremont streets.

The Recreation Department has also published a new brochure with new summer activities for adults and children. It’s available on the city website, www.cityofmelrose.org.
