HAVERHILL – Claude H. Croston, 84, husband of Dolores A. (Venezia) Croston, passed away peacefully after a short illness April 13, 2018 at Lawrence General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late George and Ellen (Welch) Croston. Raised and educated in Haverhill, he was a graduate of Haverhill High School, where he played football and track.

He attended Wake Forest University, where he played on the varsity football team. Claude obtained his master’s degree in Education at Boston State College.

He had a long career at Melrose High School, as a teacher, coach and principal, retiring in 1995. Claude enjoyed retirement, with golfing, gardening and most importantly, spending time with his beloved grandchildren, attending their school and sporting events. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

 In addition to his wife Dolores, Claude is survived by his five children: Patrick Croston and his wife Piper of Gallatin, TN; Christina Moseley, Timothy Croston and his wife Nancy of Andover; Sean Croston and his wife Jenny of Andover; Kara Norris and her husband Steve of Andover; his grandchildren, Caitlin Croston, Thomas and Frederick Moseley, John and Matt Croston, Brendan, Declan and Finn Croston, and Will Norris; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Earl Croston and sister Romaine Croston Witham.

 Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, April 26 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill.

Burial is private.

In lieu of flowers, if desired memorial donations may be made in Claude’s name to the charity of one’s choice or Mary Immaculate Nursing and Restorative Center, C/O Memory Care Unit, 172 Lawrence Street, Lawrence, MA 01841.
