WAKEFIELD — The Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield, Inc. (TSF of Wakefield) held its annual Golf Tournament at the Bear Hill Golf Club in Stoneham on Monday, September 17 with Steve Dame shooting a low gross score of 80 and winning the TSF tournament.

It was a beautiful sunny and warm day for golf as 63 participants received their greetings and ground rules from Bear Hill pro Jeff Wirbal and tournament co-chairs Tom Merchant and Mike Boudreau in preparation of the 12 noon shotgun start.

Pro shop gift certificates and trophies were awarded to the low gross and low net winners. The second low gross was Rich Mullaney with a score of 81 and third with an 82 was PJ Nelson. The top three low net winners, determined by the Callaway System, had James Taylor with a net 73, followed by Mike Hale and Rob Curley, both with 74. The ladies low gross went to Deb Serino with a 100 and low net was Sandra Gass at 78.

Prizes were also awarded for the longest drive on the twelfth, closest to the line on the tenth and closest to the pin on the four par threes. The longest drive went to Ryan McQuilkin and closest to the line was Brett Wood. The closest to the pin on the seventh hole was Roger Pinto at 6’ 6”, on the eleventh hole it was PJ Nelson at 13’10” and on the sixteenth Sandra Gass was at 8’3”.

TSF is most grateful to the tournament sponsors: the Wakefield Daily Item, the Wakefield Co-operative Bank, Middlesex Gases & Technologies, and Boston Private. Volunteers Roberta DiNitto, Jean Hall, and Anne Miller checked the golfers in and supplied them with a sleeve of Titleist golf balls.

Following golf, a dinner was held which also featured a special fundraising raffle, which offered more than $2000 in prizes including many gift certificates and golf equipment.
