PORT RICHEY, Florida — David Alan Curran, 71, passed away at his home on February 21, 2019.

David was born in Wakefield, Mass. on November 18, 1947, to the late William and Margaret Curran. He graduated from Wakefield High School in 1966. As a teenager, he worked at Pleasure Island on the “Jenny cars” where he met his future wife, Kathy Farnham of Maine. After graduation from high school, David joined the Navy where he served on the USS Wasp from 1966 – 1970, and worked for the Town of Wakefield until 1972. David married Kathleen Farnham (Curran) on October 11, 1969 and they lived in Wakefield until 1972 when they moved to Hollis, Maine. In 1989 they moved to Port Richey, Fla. where they lived the remainder of their lives.

While living in Maine, David worked for Parker Hannifin Manufacturing Plant and was an active member of his community serving on the Lion’s Club, Junior Achievement, a bowling league, and coaching many baseball and softball teams through the Hollis Parks and Recreation Commission. He also participated on the committee to bring football to Bonny Eagle where they had their inaugural season at Bonny Eagle Junior High the year David moved to Florida. Once he moved to Florida, he continued to volunteer as a coach for the New Port Richey Police Athletic League for one year. He then was an active “sideline coach” the entire 10 years his grandson played for the league.

David held various jobs upon moving to Florida but then returned to his roots of manufacturing where he worked for ETI until he retired in 2009. David’s first love was his family as he spent most of his time with them, watching all sports, and he was well known for his outgoing personality. He also enjoyed bowling, dancing, boating, camping, and visiting with friends.

David was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Kathleen Curran, who passed away in September of 2017. He was the proud father of his daughter Amy Curran of Spring Hill, Florida and his son Christopher Curran of Port Richey, Florida.. He was the adoring “Papa” to his three grandsons, Taylor, Kieran, and Declan all of Port Richey. He is survived by his brother Stephen Curran of Nashua, New Hampshire, and his sisters Martha Bedell of Lumberton, North Carolina and Maureen Curran of Wakefield, Mass., and his sister-in-law Barbara Smith of Port Richey, Fla. He also is survived by four nieces, Heather Ferro, Sarah Manuel Friedman, Mindy Bedell LaMarche and Deborah Smith and four nephews Michael Curran, Kenneth Bedell, Timothy Curran and Joshua Manuel,. He is also survived by five great nieces, one great nephew, his uncle, Richie Curran, and several cousins.

David’s life will be celebrated on March 2 from 1 – 3 p.m. at Meadowlawn Funeral Home in New Port Richey.
