PEABODY — Eileen T. Layton, 85, of Peabody, formerly of Tewksbury and Somerville, died Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in Wilmington.
Born in Somerville on December 4, 1932 she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Driscoll) Canty.
Mrs. Layton was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of St. Clements High School of Medford, Class of 1950. She was a retired secretary from Harvard University. Mrs. Layton had been a Peabody resident for the past 11 years and was formerly a longtime resident of Tewksbury.
She was the beloved wife of the late Charles J. Layton. She was the loving mother of Stephen Layton and his wife Theresa of Wilmington, Kenneth Layton and his wife Marchele of Wakefield, and John Layton and his companion Linda Rossetti of Stoneham. She was the sister of the late John Canty and Mary Robinson. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Ryan and his wife Theresa, Sean, Erica, Scott, Ashley, Christian, J.J., and Tyler; as well as two great-grandsons: Aiden and Colin.
Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 p.m. Interment, Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
