WAKEFIELD — Enrico Sabatino “Henry” Palmerino, 89, of Wakefield, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at his home.

Born in Bridgeport, Conn.
on January 7, 1930 he was the son of the late Nicola and Francis Palmerino.

Henry was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1948, where he played football and was also co-captain of the basketball team. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Korea during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and was a member of the 430 Combat Engineers.

He was a lifelong Wakefield resident and was a member of St. Joseph Church as well as an original member of the Crystal Community Club. He was a member of the Local 4 International Union of Operating Engineers for over 50 years. Henry was a very skilled handy man and was very mechanically inclined, he could fix practically anything if it had a motor. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family; most especially cherishing time spent with his grandchildren.

He was the beloved husband of the late Jean M. (Acciavatti), with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Nicholas Palmerino and his wife Stefanie of Wakefield, Mary Ann Matthews and her husband Ed of North Billerica, and JoAnn Bourassa and her husband Stephen of Tewksbury. He was the dear cousin of Rita Granonio of Milford, Conn. He was the grandfather of Collin Matthews, Danielle Matthews and her fiancé Devin Messenger, Nicole, Tyler, and Gianna Palmerino, and Britney and Madison Bourassa.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield. Visitation for relatives and friends will be at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 p.m.
