GABRIELLE BARKER

NORTH READING — The North Reading High School Athletic Department and girls’ lacrosse program is proud to announce that senior captain Gabrielle Barker has been selected as a U.S. Lacrosse All-Academic Player for the commonwealth of Massachusetts.

A U.S. Lacrosse All-Academic Player is one who exhibits exemplary lacrosse skills, good sportsmanship on the field and represents high standards of academic achievement in the classroom.

This is the first time in program history of a Hornet player receiving the accolade.

“Our entire North Reading lacrosse and academic community is incredibly proud of Gabby,” said head coach Matt Costello. “Gabby is the epitome of a student-athlete and has raised the bar for her teammates to follow suit. For Gabby to be recognized by U.S. Lacrosse, the national governing body of lacrosse in the United States, as one of the top players in the country is an unbelievable accomplishment. The award is the ‘cherry on top’ to an amazing legacy she is leaving behind for our lacrosse program. It’s been an honor and privilege to coach such an amazing person and leader.”

The award was very meaningful to Barker as well, who sees the bigger picture of what the sport has provided her from a young age.

“From third grade to senior year, lacrosse has always been such a big part of my life,” said Barker. “I am so grateful for the teams I have been a part of, my coaches over the years and the girls I’ve not only played with, but grown up with. I can’t wait to see what the program does in the years to come.”

Barker will be attending Northeastern University in the fall.
