Mondello, Purcell, Porter named All-Stars

WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield High varsity girls’ soccer team recently held their annual end of the season banquet.

Wakefield thanked their seniors, Kathryn Kerrigan, Emma Lambiaso, Winnie Mylan, Lillian Jones, Paige Dube, Abby Mondello, Lily Smith, Sarah Melanson, Julia Castellano and Kyleigh Flannigan for their dedication to the soccer program over the last four years.

The Warriors also honored this year’s All-Stars as elected by the Middlesex League’s coaches. The 2019 M.L. All-Stars were senior defender Abby Mondello and sophomore forwards Kayli Porter and Ashlee Purcell.

Purcell also earned a nod to the Eastern Mass Second Team All-Stars after a season in which she scored 17 goals and nine assists.

The Warriors finished the season with a record of 8-10. Highlights included two early-season shutouts against Middlesex Large opponents Reading and Lexington as well as season sweeps over Watertown, Burlington and Malden. Wakefield ended up just one win shy of making the tournament.

Wakefield also elected new captains for the 2020 season as current captains Mondello, Emma Lambiaso and Sarah Melanson handed over the C’s to current juniors Haley Faulkner and Liliana Carioli.
