STONEHAM — The girls’ cross country team celebrated their 2019 season at Bear Hill Country Club on Dec. 2.

The Warriors finished the season with a 4-1 record in the Freedom Division.

Wakefield was led by a pack consistently including Elina Olmedo, Sammy Seabury, Olivia Lucey and Devon Jellison. Leaders like captains Lucey and Retta Carroll as well as juniors Olmedo, Shannon Driscoll and Grace Butler helped younger runners like Seabury, Jellison, Madison Nett, Nicole Calandra, Caroline Collins, Amber Roehrich and Aiva Barnard learn the type of dedication it takes to win the Middlesex League.

The Warriors beat Stoneham, Watertown, Burlington and Wilmington. Their only Freedom loss came to rival Melrose who were league champions.

At the banquet, Wakefield presented team awards and announced the captains for next year as Lucey and Carroll passed their captaincies on to Butler, Driscoll and Olmedo.

The award winners were Olivia Lucey (Kelly Ledoux-Walsh Award), Retta Carroll (Outstanding Leadership Award), Shannon Driscoll (Coaches Award), Sammy Seabury (Lady Wolverine Award), Elina Olmedo (No Guts, No Glory Award), Grace Butler (Unsung Hero), Devon Jellison (Rookie of the Year) and Madison Nett (Most Improved).
