WAKEFIELD — The Middlesex League softball coaches met recently to vote on All-Stars for the 2019 season.
The Wakefield Memorial High School varsity team had a strong season in Chris Tolios’ first year as head coach. They finished with a record of 9-11, just one win short of making the Div. 2 North tournament.
Wakefield had two league All-Stars selected as senior captain Juliette Guanci and junior Katie Pearl both got the call.
Guanci, who was also named to the All-Conference team, was one of the teams most important leaders as she played first base and hit in the heart of the lineup. Guanci’s 30 hits and 24 RBI’s were both good for second in the league.
Pearl, an outfielder who set the tone for the Warriors at the top of the lineup, led the league in hits with 35 and was third overall in batting average with a .492.
Burlington led the balloting in the Freedom Division with five All-Stars including MVP Christina Clark. Wilmington and Melrose were next with four, followed by two from Wakefield and one from Stoneham.
Reading led the way in the Liberty with five All-Stars, followed by four from Woburn, three from Lexington and Arlington and one from Winchester and Belmont.
