WAKEFIELD — Henry M. Tanner, Jr., 82, of Wakefield, formerly of Melrose, died Monday, June 25, 2018 at his residence.

Born in Melrose on May 2, 1936 he was the son of the late Henry and Frances (Tash) Tanner.

Mr. Tanner was raised in Melrose and was a graduate of Melrose High School, Class of 1954, as well as a graduate of both Wentworth Institute and Northeastern University. He had retired from Stryco Electronic of Malden.

Mr. Tanner was a member and Past Master of the Golden Rule Lodge AF&AM Order of Masons of Wakefield. He had recently received recognition for his 50 years of membership. Mr. Tanner was also a member of the Shriners where he actively volunteered his time. He was a past Scout Master of Troop 708. He enjoyed traveling to Bermuda and Disney World. Mr. Tanner was an avid reader and an enthusiastic New England Patriots fan.

He was the beloved husband of the late Audrey M. (Thomas). He was the loving father of David A. Tanner and his wife Laura of Wakefield and Robyne Tanner and her husband Jeffrey Berlin of Melrose. He was the brother of the late Judie Frey. He was the devoted and proud grandfather of Leah Tanner and Haley Tanner of Wakefield and Katherine Berlin of Melrose. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be at the First United Methodist Church, 645 Main St, Melrose on Friday at 11 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday from 4 – 8 p.m. Interment, Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
