WAKEFIELD — James F. “Jim” Quinn, 74, of Wakefield, formerly of Somerville, died peacefully Saturday, January 5, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Cambridge on February 26, 1944 he was the son of the late William J. and Helen (Manning) Quinn.

Jim was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School and also Boston University, where he played four years of hockey and was team captain his senior year. Jim had served in the U.S. Army Reserves and had retired from Quincy Mutual Fire Insurance Company. He had been a Wakefield resident since 1978 and was a member of St. Joseph Church. Jim loved to golf and also enjoyed traveling and vacationing with his family and friends. Above all, he cherished his family and time spent with his grandchildren.

He was the beloved husband of Maureen A. (Nazzaro) Quinn. He was the loving father of Mark Quinn and his wife Kathleen of Wakefield, Jillian Q. Fleming and her husband Tyler of North Reading, and Michael Quinn and his wife Elizabeth of North Reading. He was the brother of William L. Quinn and his wife Mary Jane of Reading, and the late Walter, Joseph, and Robert Quinn, and Edith Schrage and Mary Quinn. He was the loving “Papa” to Andrew, Emma, Zachary, Margaux, Owen, Chase and Jackson. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Angelina Nazzaro of Revere and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield. Visitation for relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
