YORK, Maine — John R. Hood, 80, died March 6, 2019, at York Hospital.  

Jack was born March 31, 1938 in Athol, Mass. a son of the late Stanley and Anna (Stone) Hood, formerly of Athol.  

During Jack’s Junior and Senior years at Athol High School, he was the best third baseman on the high school baseball team. His old friend, Mike Dube said that Jack had a rocket arm and was a big time hitter. They were on the best baseball team Athol ever had. He had a couple of tryouts with the Red Sox and hit a lot of balls out of the park, but didn’t make the team. He graduated from Athol High School then served in the Army. He attended Northeastern University and worked as an electrical field engineer for most of his career. According to his colleagues, Jack was considered an expert in his field.  

He resided in Wakefield, Mass. for 31 years before making York, Maine his home in his retirement years. He was a member of the York Golf & Tennis Club, York, Maine since 1993.  

He is survived by his wife Margaret A. (Mooney) Hood of 38 years, his son Darin J. Hood and his wife Maureen of Harvard, Mass., and grandchildren Madison and Matthew.  

He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Vickey Duprez (Cloukey) and her husband Paul of Salem, N.H., Brenda Cloukey of Hudson, Fla., Anne M. Mooney of Stoneham, Mass., and Patricia M. Buckley and her husband Robert of Woburn, Mass., and his brothers-in-law Michael F. Mooney of Waltham, Mass. and John J. Mooney of Bradford, N.H.

He leaves behind two nieces and a nephew, Stephanie, Taylor and Drew Buckley, and many nieces and nephews from the Cloukey and Duprez families; and many wonderful friends.  

He is predeceased by his first wife Lottie Cloukey formally of Orange, Mass., and his brothers James and David of Athol, Mass.
