WAKEFIELD — Kathryn “Jean” Curran, 90, of Wakefield died peacefully, Thursday, February 21, 2019 at her residence.

Born in Wakefield on June 30, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Margaret L. (Murphy) Cassidy.

Jean was a lifelong Wakefield resident and was a member of St. Joseph Parish. She was married to the former Captain of the Wakefield Fire Department, the late Charles C. She was a fashionista and loved to shop; she was a regular visitor at Marshall’s. She frequented shops in Wakefield center, often times making her way from her home on foot with her walker.

She loved to travel, most especially wintering in Fort Lauderdale, where her family has many cherished memories with children and grandchildren. When her children were young, Jean also spent two weeks every summer in Hampton, New Hampshire where many fond memories were formed. Above all, she cherished her family and time spent with her great grandchildren.

Jean is survived by her children: Patricia A. Freda of N.H., Rosemarie L. Curran of Wakefield, Shirley J. Palmerino and her husband Michael of Wakefield, Thomas P. Curran and his wife Catherine of Danvers, Diane L. Yamartino and her husband Jim of Fla., and Mark Curran of Peabody; her daughter-in-law, Eileen Curran of Wakefield, and brother-in-law Richie Curran of North Reading; as well as 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her “best best girlfriends.” In addition to her parents and her husband, Jean was predeceased by her son, Charles C. “Chuck” Curran, Jr., her grandson, Brian Palmerino, and her eight siblings.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment, Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
