LYNN — The Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading co-op girls hockey team entered the Div. 1 tournament as the No. 25 seed with an 11-8-2 record.

LYNNFIELD’s Abby Buckley was sensational in net during the co-op girls’ hockey team’s tournament game against St. Mary’s. Buckley finished with 42 saves and shut out the No. 8 Spartans for two periods as the No. 25 Tanners lost 2-0 in the preliminary round. (Mark Grant File Photo)

The Tanners matched up against No. 8 St. Mary’s (16-4-2) at Connery Rink in Lynn in the preliminary round on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

After a valiant effort against one of the state’s best, the Tanners fell short, 2-0.

Lynnfield goalie Abby Buckley was the best player on the ice as she made 42 saves for the Tanners. Buckley kept the Spartans off the board for the first two periods, before St. Mary’s finally broke through on the power play early in the third. The Spartans punched in another goal about one minute later accounting for the final score.

The Tanners have plenty to be proud of this season as they made it back to the tournament and won multiple close games.

The team graduates five seniors, including Mae Norton of LHS, but have plenty to look forward to next season. In addition to Buckley, Lynnfield’s Jen Flynn had a great freshmen season as a forward; freshman Reilly Ganter was a good defenseman, as was sophomore Carolyn Garofoli.
