LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield-North Reading co-op wrestling team celebrated an impressive season during its annual banquet last week.

The Black and Gold concluded the 16th year of the co-op program with a 17-15 record, which surpassed last year’s 7-24 record.

“LNR outscored and outplaced themselves, compared to last year, at all season and post season tournaments,” said LNR head coach Craig Stone. “At tournaments this season, LNR placed six wrestlers at the Anthony Lisitano Tournament, six wrestlers at the Pentucket Tournament, 11 at the Cohasset Tournament, six at the Cape Ann League/Northeastern Conference Tournament, 10 at the Division 2 North Sectional Tournament, one at the Division 2 State Tournament and one at the All-State Tournament.”

Stone presented a number of team awards during the banquet. Senior captain Sean McCullough received the 100 Point Club, Most Wins, Most Points, Most Takedowns and Contributed Most Awards.

Seniors Eric Benecke, Steven Kane and Aidan Carucci were each given the Most Desire Award. Senior Gerry Callagy was presented with the Most Improved Award. Senior Greg Camier was given the 90-Point Club Award and the Coaches’ Award.

Senior captain Stuart Glover was the recipient of three awards, 100 Point Club, Most Pins and Outstanding Achievement. Senior Giovanni Colucciello won the John O’Donnell Team Spirit Award.

Senior captain Tim Leggett was given the 100 Point Club, Most Pins and Outstanding Achievement Awards. Senior Cam Randazzo was presented with the 70 Point Club Award and the Unsung Hero Award. Senior Dan Ryan was given a Coaches’ Award.

Sophomore Ryan McCullough was the recipient of the 70 Point Club Award. Senior Brandon Ouellette received the 70 Point Club, Fastest Pin and Most Improved Awards.

Stone also noted during the banquet that Sean McCullough, Glover, Leggett and Ouellette were named CAL All-League wrestlers.

Additionally, Stone gave Kane, Ouellette and sophomore Ethan Barnes-Felix their first Iron Man Awards. Callagy, Carucci, Glover, Leggett, Ryan McCullough, Randazzo, sophomore Luke Benecke, junior Christian Real-Costa and junior Jack Ross received their second Iron Man Awards. Eric Benecke, Camier and Marotta were presented with their third Iron Man Awards. Colucciello, Sean McCullough and Dan Ryan were given their fourth Iron Man Awards.

In addition to presenting awards during the banquet, Stone gave certificates of merit to freshmen Matt Lombardo and David Poirier. He also presented varsity letters to eighth-grader Matt Howell and sophomores Barnes-Felix, Adam Bakr, Luke Benecke, Kyle Bryant, Ryan McCullough, Aidan Smith and Jack Terranova.

The juniors who were given varsity letters were Alex Lin, Nik Marotta, Christian Real-Costa and Jack Ross. The seniors who received varsity letters were Eric Benecke, Callagy, Camier, Carucci, Colucciello, Glover, Kane, Leggett, Randazzo, Dan Ryan, Sean McCullough and Ouellette.

LNR also voted to elect Marotta, Real-Costa and Ryan McCullough as captains for the 2020-21 season.
