LYNNFIELD — Local officials are looking to find a permanent solution for the King Rail Reserve Golf Course’s clubhouse.

In an interview with the Villager, Town Administrator Rob Dolan said National Development donated $700,000 to the town several years ago as part of the MarketStreet Lynnfield development, which have been earmarked for King Rail improvements. He said an internal committee has been meeting to determine whether the town should continue renting the existing modular clubhouse or purchase a pre-fabricated modular clubhouse.

“We want a good place to do business that is within the budget and makes sense financially,” said Dolan.

Local officials were considering building a permanent clubhouse two years ago, but the Board of Selectmen scrapped that proposal because it would have cost between $2 million to $3 million.

In addition to providing an update on the clubhouse project, Dolan told the Board of Selectmen on June 18 that he was tentatively scheduled to meet with a L.I.F.E. representative on Monday to discuss some “disorderly conduct” issues that have occurred at King Rail.

“There have been some issues with alcohol,” said Dolan. “We have put up additional signage this week and notified the clubhouse’s manager that he needs to do rounds. We have notified each league about the rules of the clubhouse. If they do not follow those rules, those privileges will be taken away.”

Since the town is unable to pave the golf course’s gravel driveway due to conservation restrictions, Dolan said the town will be spraying liquid calcium chloride for dust control next week.

“We tried it last year and it worked,” said Dolan. “We are going to spray that again on July 1. It’s supposed to work for a minimum of six months, which will get us until the winter.”

Dolan noted the town spent “about $8,000 from golf revenue on arborvitaes” that surrounds a storage container at the King Rail Golf Reserve Golf Course.

“It was unsightly to the people on Walnut Street and at Colonial Village,” said Dolan.
