LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High field hockey team won its third game in a row last Friday night as they blanked host Georgetown 4-0. With that win, the Pioneers improved to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the Cape Ann League.

Lynnfield scored twice in each half. Ashley Barrett had the first goal with 21:10 left in the opening half. Jen Flynn then made it 2-0 assisted by Lily Rothwell. That tally came with only 12 seconds left in the first half.

“That late goal gave us a lot of momentum going into the second half,” said Pioneers head coach Mamie Reardon. “I got us fired up.”

Maddie Murphy made it, 3-0, 4:10 into the second half assisted by Barrett. Rothwell then scored the final goal, unassisted, with 8:38 remaining.

Emily Dickey posted her sixth shutout in net as she turned back three Royals shots to go to 7-1.

Reardon was pleased with the play of midfielder, Brianna Barrett and sweeper Abby Buckley.

“Brianna was outstanding in the middle and Abby moved the ball well,” she said about her two captains.

Conquer Generals

On Sept. 26, the Pioneers rolled over host Hamilton-Wenham 5-0. Lynnfield took control of this game early scoring four times in the opening half. Ashley Barrett led the way recording her second hat-trick of the year.

“She is very aggressive and is our catalyst on offense,” said Reardon. Rothwell, assisted by Carolyn Garofoli, and Murphy, assisted by Flynn, accounted for the two other goals.

“That is the first time we played on a grass field this year and one side was very wet because of the rain from the day before,” pointed out Reardon.

Dickey made four stops against the Generals.

This Thursday night (Oct. 4) at 6 p.m., the Pioneers host Amesbury in their Play for a Cure game to raise money to fight cancer. Lynnfield will be wearing pick uniforms and there will be a bake sale and raffle that includes Bruins tickets as one of the big prizes as Reardon is hoping for a big turnout.

On Columbus Day next Monday morning, the Pioneers visit Ipswich at 10 a.m.
