LYNNFIELD — On Monday afternoon, the Lynnfield High boys’ soccer team tied host Hamilton-Wenham 0-0 in a game that was rescheduled, due to rain, last Saturday.

With that result, the Pioneers record went to 3-1-1 overall.

“We didn’t play our best game and we were fortunate to come out with the tie,” acknowledged Lynnfield head coach Brent Munroe. “They outplayed us for the most part. We struggled playing on the grass surface but they did not.”

Lynnfield plays most of its games on the field turf surface.

The one Pioneer player who stood out, according to Munroe, was defensive midfielder Jack Zelven.

“Jack had a very solid game,” stated Munroe.

Lynnfield goalie Dante Gesamondo made eight saves to go to 3-1-1 in net.

On Oct. 14, the Pioneers won 3-1 at Amesbury.

“Again, we didn’t play that great,” recalled Munroe. “Amesbury is a little down this season so we had enough to pull it out.”

In the first quarter, Dom Ferrante got the locals on the scoreboard with Luke Martinho assisting. Ben Sykes made it 2-0 in the second quarter assisted by Alex Gentile.

The Indians scored later in the second to cut the lead to one at the half.

In the third, Henry Caulfield scored the final goal of the afternoon and that one was unassisted.

Gesamondo had an easy day in net as he made two stops.

The next game for the Pioneers will be on Oct. 24 as they visit Georgetown (1-2-2) at 10 a.m. They then visit Rockport (3-1-1) on Oct. 26 at 4 p.m.
