LYNNFIELD — Three members of the Lynnfield High boys soccer team recently received postseason honors from the Cape Ann League coaches. Tom Buston, Luke Martinho and Tom Hauser, were the three Pioneers honored.

Buston, a senior striker, made the CAL Kinney division First-Team All-Stars. The co-captain led the team in goals with 11 and he also added five assists to finish with a team-high 16 points. It is his first time on the team.

Martinho is a junior defenseman and he was also named to the CAL All-League team.

Hauser, a senior midfielder, made the team for the second year in a row. The co-captain also made the All-League team and he was also selected to the Eastern Mass. All-Star team as well.

He was second on the team in points with 15 as he had nine goals and six assists.

“Both Buston and Hauser were four-year players for me,” said Pioneers head coach Brent Munroe. “They were both three-year starters.”

Buston had 28 career goals while Hauser finished with 23.

Munroe also praised Martinho.

“He was the leader of our defense,” said Munroe.

Lynnfield finished 12-9-1 as they reached the Division 3 North final before losing 3-1 to Bedford. They went 7-8-1 in the Cape Ann League as they finished in fifth place in the CAL Kinney division.

“They exceeded my expectations,” said Munroe, who just completed his 19th-year at the helm. “We got so much better by the end of the season. I would have considered a loss in the first round of the tournament a good year but we were able to win three playoff games.”

Along with Buston and Hauser, the team will lose three more seniors: Alejandro Lynch (defensive-midfielder), Matt Juliano (defenseman) and Fadi Dhahib (striker).

Lynch and Juliano were the two other captains and were also starters.

“We had a fabulous year and the seniors were a huge reason for that,” said Munroe. “They were also very good leaders.”

Next year looks promising for the team as they are slated to return 15 veterans including Martinho and goalie Dante Gesamondo, who will also be a senior next year.

“We have a great group coming back and I am looking forward to next year,” stated Munroe.
