Meet Amesbury this week to determine CAL small champ

BYFIELD — The LHS boys’ track and field team went to Triton Regional on Wednesday, May 9 ready to compete. The Pioneers put together a great performance but just came up short to North Reading and Triton by identical 75-70 scores.

Lynnfield got first place in 11 events, however, the depth of the Vikings and Hornets was strong enough to gets past the Pioneers.

Sophomore Ben Kramich reached a league-best 11’6” in the pole vault for first place against both teams. Senior Kevin Travers had a 10’ vault which was second against Triton. Junior Ryan Bey’s 9’9” also qualified for states.

Senior Ryan Iapicca’s 4:56 in the mile was good for first place against the Hornets and second against the Vikings.

Nick Kinnon was a double winner in this one as the senior got first in the 100 meters (11.48) and the 200 meters (22.67). Those two times beat both oppositions. The Pioneers sweep Triton in the 100, as sophomores John Lee (12.15) and Tommy Hauser (12.25) took second and third. Sophomore Colby Clattenburg got third in the 200 against both teams.

Sophomore Alejandro Lynch sprinted to a first-place finish against North Reading in the 400. Lynch’s 55.17 accounted for third against Triton.

Senior Nathan Drislane was first in the shot put against North Reading with a 41’9” throw. That was good enough for second against Triton, as Drislane was edged for first by just a half an inch. Senior Anthony Wilkinson threw a 37-7” which was third against Triton.

Sophomore Anthony Floramo got first overall in the discus with a huge heave of 105’2”. Junior Cam Comeau’s 97” got second against Triton and third against North Reading.

Hauser nabbed first overall in the long jump with a new state qualifying mark of 19-4.5”. Kinnon’s 19-3” was second overall and junior Chris Deschenes was third against Triton with an 18-11”.

Junior Brett Cohee soared first overall in the triple jump at 42”. Deschenes’ 39-8” was second against Triton and third vs. North Reading.

Finishing for first for the relay teams were the 4×400 team of Iapicca, Kramich, junior Justin Nardella and junior Jack Campbell as they recorded a 3:46, and the 4×100 team of Hauser, Lee, Cohee and junior Max Sieger who ran a 45.6.

The Pioneers are now 2-4 on the season. They had a big meet this week against Amesbury and Masco on Tuesday after press time. The winner of the Lynnfield and Amesbury meet will be the Cape Ann League Small Champions.
