LYNNFIELD — The undefeated Lynnfield High field hockey team rolled over visiting Rockport, 5-0, at Pioneer Stadium last Thursday afternoon for its second home win in two days.

The Pioneers took control of the contest in the first half, scoring three times against the overmatched Vikings.

With the victory, Lynnfield improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Cape Ann League.

Ashley Barrett was the story in this one as the senior co-captain recorded a hat trick.

“She has come up really strong this year so far,” said Pioneers head coach Mamie Reardon.

Her sister, Brianna, and Maddie Murphy had the two other Pioneers goals. Brianna’s came off a corner.

Karen Garofoli led the team in assists with two.

Goalie Emily Dickey improved to 4-0 as she made two saves.

The day before, also at home, the Pioneers beat Triton, 4-1. In this matchup, the Pioneers led, 2-0, at the half.

“They are a much-improved team so this was a good win for us,” said Reardon.

Lily Rothwell had the first two goals in the opening half while Ashley Barrett had the two second half Pioneer goals.

Dickey made seven saves, all in the second half.

“They played much better in the second half,” Reardon said of the visitors.

On Thursday afternoon, Lynnfield hosts Newburyport. The Pioneers then visit Pentucket on Sept. 24.

Both of those games will start at 3:45 p.m.
