BYFIELD — The Lynnfield High girls’ basketball team had its best defensive effort of the season on Martin Luther King Day afternoon as they won at Triton 42-18 up in Byfield.

With that win, the Pioneers improved to 4-5 overall and 3-5 in the Cape Ann League.

Last Friday night, the Pioneers fell to the defending Division 2 state champions, Pentucket 48-30 as the Sachems completed the season sweep.

Lynnfield put up a fight as they only trailed 22-17 at the half.

However, the Sachems outscored them 12-6 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 11 heading into the final eight minutes.
