LYNNFIELD — The girls’ soccer team won both of its games last week, improving the Pioneers’ overall record to 5-2.

The Pioneers began last week dismantling Pentucket 5-1 on Sept. 26.

Junior Emma Montanile scored the Pioneers’ first goal two minutes into the first half, assisted by senior Olivia Montanile.

Senior captain Sydney Santosuosso found the back of the net with four minutes remaining in the first half, which gave Lynnfield a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Pentucket scored its only goal of the game four minutes into the second half, cutting the locals’ lead to one.

Undaunted, senior captain Kate Mitchell scored a goal nine minutes into the second half. Senior captain Liz Shaievitz had the assist.

Shaievitz gave the Pioneers’ a 4-1 lead 14 minutes into the second half, assisted by Mitchell.

Shaievitz scored her second goal with four minutes remaining in the contest. Mitchell was credited with the assist.

Pioneers head coach Mark Vermont commended the Pioneers’ performance against Pentucket.

“It was a good game,” said Vermont. “We played well and moved the ball well. Pentucket has a grass field, which we are not used to but we adjusted well.”

Vermont commended Mitchell’s performance against Pentucket.

“Kate was dominate as an outside player,” said Vermont. “She was able to get the ball wide and be dangerous.”

Vermont said Santosuosso played a great game as well.

“Sydney did a nice job in the middle for us,” said Vermont.

Flushes Royals

The Pioneers kept rolling and defeated Georgetown 3-0 Sept. 28.

Shaievitz scored the Pioneers’ first goal two minutes into the first half. Sophomore Anna Ferrante had the assist.

Ferrante gave Lynnfield a 2-0 lead 18 minutes into the first half.

Shaievitz scored the Pioneers’ final goal five minutes into the second half. Mitchell was credited with the assist.

“Liz’s two goals were huge,” said Vermont.

Vermont said the Pioneers played a great defensive game against Georgetown.

“I thought our defense played well,” said Vermont. “We are communicating better in the back and are playing better defensively.”
