LYNNFIELD — The girls’ soccer team has opened the 2020 Cape Ann League season with a .500 record. 

The Pioneers (2-2) defeated Amesbury 3-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 14. 

Freshman Keely Briggs scored her first varsity goal with eight minutes remaining in the first half. Junior forward Adri Parisi had the assist. 

“It was an awesome goal,” said Pioneers head coach Mark Vermont. “She crashed the net and was in the right place at the right time.”

Senior captain Julia Colucci scored the Pioneers’ second goal seven minutes into the second half. Senior captain Ashley Mitchell was credited with the assist. 

Parisi scored Lynnfield’s final goal with three minutes remaining in the contest. Freshman Ally Sykes had the assist. 

Junior goalie Samantha Bunar played in net during the first half and had four saves. Senior goalie Lindsay Nardone got the call during the second half and recorded four saves. 

Vermont praised the Pioneers’ performance against Amesbury. 

“It was good to see us play with intensity,” said Vermont. “We did a great job moving the ball. I was very pleased with our overall performance.” 

Falls to Ipswich

The Pioneers fell 1-0 to Ipswich on Oct. 12. 

The Tigers scored its only goal of the game on a penalty kick nine minutes into the second half. 

Nardone recorded four saves in net during the first half. Bunar tallied four saves between the pipes in the second half. 

Vermont said the Pioneers struggled against the Tigers. 

“We had a hard time stringing our passes together,” said Vermont. “Ipswich worked hard and out worked us.”

Lynnfield hosted Hamilton-Wenham on Monday, Oct. 19, taking place after deadline. The Pioneers host Georgetown on Friday, Oct. 23, beginning at 3:45 p.m. Lynnfield hosts Rockport on Monday, Oct. 26, beginning at 4 p.m.
