BOXFORD — The Lynnfield High School golf team were represented well at the CAL Open, as Jed Caswell and George DeRoche played in the tournament which took place at Far Corner Golf Course in Boxford.

Caswell shot an 81 on a par 72 (+9), placing fourth overall out of the top 22 players in the Cape Ann League.

“Coming into it I knew I was good enough to be able to play against the top players in the league because I was one of them, and the results show that,” Caswell stated. “My 15th club came in handy on the back nine as at the time I was +10 on the front and instead of falling down more, I just kept on playing my game and by not letting it get to me, I ended up shooting -1 on the back nine. I feel like if I were able to save a couple more strokes on the front nine, I could have won the tournament.”

With Caswell placing 4th overall, he earned his spot on the first-team all star list, which are the top 8 players in the CAL Open.

George DeRoche placed ninth overall, only a couple of strokes behind Caswell, shooting am 85. He struck the ball well and crushed his irons, but had trouble around the green.

“He is most definitely one of the most talented golfers within the last couple of years for Lynnfield golf,” said Caswell. “I knew that going into the season because he never gives up on himself and on the game. George pushes through to the end and next year he will excel even more.”

The Pioneer golf team will now get ready for the Division 3 North state tournament which is Monday, Oct. 23, 9 a.m. at Far Corners.
