LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High volleyball team continued its perfect season last Friday afternoon as they blanked guest Ipswich, 3-0. With that win, not only did the Pioneers improved to 10-0 overall and 8-0 in the Cape Ann League but they also clinched a bid to the Division 2 state tournament.

Lynnfield has not lost a set all season.

They beat the Tigers, 25-11, 25-20 and 25-7.

ASTONISHING START – The Pioneers had a record-breaking first half of their 2019 season. With 10 games down and 10 to go, seniors Melissa Morelli (13) and Sophia Wilkinson (7) have helped lead the Pioneers to a 10-0 record and an incredible 30-0 set record. The Pioneers totaled 36 kills in that match led by Melissa Morelli (15) and Sam Lebruska (10). Ella Gizmunt added seven. 

Sophia Wilkinson served five aces while Ashley Pagliuca and Sofia Ciriello both had 10 digs.  

At Newburyport, the Pioneers won, 3-0. They won the first game, 25-17, the second one, 25-9 and the final one 25-13.

Gizmunt led the team in kills with nine, followed by seven from Morelli. Morelli added 17 assists and five aces. 

Ciriello paced the team in digs again with 10. Wilkinson led the way in aces with seven. 

On Wednesday, head coach Brent Ashley’s squad looks for win number 11 as they host Triton. They then go to Pentucket on Friday and host Georgetown next Monday.

All three of those matches will start at 5:30 p.m.
