LYNNFIELD — Local authorities were particularly tight-lipped as they investigated the stabbing of a 20-year-old man in town last Saturday night.

Police would only confirm that the stabbing took place in front of a Hart Road home around 7 p.m. and that the people involved knew each other. “(W)e are still investigating this and can’t release any more than that,” a department spokesperson said.

Just after 7 p.m., Wakefield public safety crews rushed to the Four Corners shopping center at the corner of Lowell and Vernon streets not far from the Lynnfield line Saturday night after getting a 911 call for help.

According to information provided by the Wakefield Police and Fire departments, the Lynnfield stabbing victim was being driven to an area hospital by a family member, who pulled into the parking lot of the shopping plaza and called 911. Responding police and fire personnel found the passenger in the vehicle with a severe wound to left side of his head and neck.

Due to the nature of the injuries, first responders requested a MedFlight helicopter, which landed at Veterans Field adjacent to Lake Quannapowitt. Cataldo Ambulance then transported the injured man from the shopping plaza to the waiting chopper, which flew the man to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.

The incident is being investigated by Lynnfield Police, who said only that the victim knew his assailant. No further information is being released at this time on the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.

The condition of the victim, whose name was among the information withheld by police as they continue their probe, was not known at press time.
