Enjoyed boating, water skiing and skiing at Gunstock

SALEM — Charles L. Grant, 80, passed away in Salem on Sept. 24, 2019.

Charlie was born in Boston on November 15, 1938 to the late Charles Grant Sr. and Arlean (Dakin) Grant. He was raised in Roxbury and graduated from Charlestown High School. Charlie served his country with pride from 1955-1958 in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Grant lived in Melrose for 20 years and the last 25 years in Salem and Bermuda.

Charlie had his CLU, ChFC in Finance and Insurance and has worked in the industry along side his daughter Lauren for many years. He was also a manager for Bermuda Fire and Marine Insurance Company. He was the former owner of the Grant Agency and Angela Grant Realty in Melrose with his late wife Angela Grant. Charlie was a former member of Incarnation Church in Melrose where he volunteered as a lector. He was also very generous to many local charities. Mr. Grant was a past president of the Melrose Lions Club, a member of the Bermuda Lions Club and was a member of the Bermuda Masons.

He loved spending time at his home on Black Point in Alton Bay, Lake Winnipesaukee, where he enjoyed boating, water skiing and skiing at Gunstock Mountain, as well as boating and jet skiing at his home in Bermuda. Charlie traveled all over the United States and the world, traveling to India, Tuscany, and Cuba and loved the South Pacific Islands to name a few. He also loved taking cruises to different destinations. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather and will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and the twinkle in his eyes.

Mr. Grant was the beloved husband of Dorea L. (Cannonier) Grant and the late Angela (Tarello) Grant. He was the loving father of Lisa M. Brosnahan and her husband Danny of Lynnfield; Lauren K. Grant of Salem and her longtime companion Robert Voto; Leslie J. McCarthy and her husband Dennis of Burlington; and Lana M. Vatalaro of Wolfeboro New Hampshire. He is also survived by his step-children Renee Wallace-Mayer and her husband Thomas and Eric Wallace and his wife Martha, all of Bermuda. He was the caring brother of Elizabeth Denehy and her husband Tim of Leominster and the late Gerald and Glenn Grant. He was the cherished grandfather of Ryan, Frank, Sean, John, Jake, Eric, Hunter, Kai, Svana, Ava, Eric, Zack, Maxwell and James. He is also survived by numerous, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St. Melrose on Friday, Sept. 27. Funeral procession from Gately Funeral Home was on Saturday morning, Sept. 28, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St. Melrose. Interment with military honors was at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend.
