Korean War veteran, sailor and WBZ news photographer

REVERE — Charles R. Kaliris, 84, formerly of Revere and a longtime resident of Lynnfield, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2018.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Charles and Loretta (Cassidy) Kaliris. He will be remembered as the dedicated and loving husband of Mary L. (Dillon) Kaliris with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.

He was the devoted and treasured father of the late Charles (Chuck) Kaliris and his wife Karen of North Reading, William Kaliris and his wife Denise of Melrose, and Christine Kaliris and Eric Danilchuk of Winthrop. He was the cherished grandfather of Diane, Mark, William, Dillon and Matia Kaliris. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Charlie, a Korean War veteran, served in the U.S. Army. He graduated in 1959 from Boston University. Working for almost 40 years as a news photographer at WBZ-Channel 4 Boston, Charlie enjoyed sharing memories of his career with his children and grandchildren.

Charlie was a lover of the ocean and an avid sailor. He was a life-time member of the Winthrop Yacht Club where he served on the Board of Directors for over 30 years. Charlie was a ham radio operator. Charlie was known for his strength, quick wit, warmth and unwavering dedication and love for his family. He could always be found in the stands of his grandchildren’s games, cheering them on.

Relatives and friends honored and remembered Charlie’s life by gathering during visiting hours at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster Street in Melrose on Sunday, July 15. Procession from the Gately Funeral Home was held on Monday, July 16, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 758 Salem Street, Lynnfield. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
