Enjoyed reading, walks on the beach and traveling

WELLS, Maine — Dorothy L. (Kelley) Scarborough, 89, of Wells, Maine, formerly of Melrose, passed away at the Sutton Hill Center in North Andover on Sept. 28, 2019.

Dot was born in Worcester, raised in Holden and Cincinnati, Ohio, and was and a graduate of North College Hill High School. She resided in Melrose for 30 years and Wells, Maine for over 25 years. Dot worked as a secretary for Flowtron in Malden for many years and later worked at the Kittery Maine Recreation Department for nearly 10 years. She enjoyed spending time volunteering for Easter Seals.

Dot loved dogs, cats, seals and also enjoyed reading, taking walks on the beach, movies and traveling to England and Disney World. She vacationed with her family at Moody Beach, Wells, Maine for over 50 years. Dot loved spending time with her family and lifelong friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the most important part of her life.

She was the loving mother of Gary Scarborough and his wife Deborah of Lynnfield; Kris Scarborough and his wife Patricia of Andover; and Kai Foley and her husband Kevin of North Andover. She was the former wife of the late Dana L. Scarborough. She was the caring sister of the late Rev. Donald Kelley. She was the cherished grandmother of Eric, Ryan, Dana, Aubrey, John, Sean, Lauren and Marc. She was the great-grandmother of Charlotte, Arya, Cameron and Arthur. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9-11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be private.
