Known for his determination and zest for life

LYNNFIELD — Evan Mark Scollard, 23, a member of the U.S. Navy and a Lynnfield resident, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018.

Born in Boston on December 19, 1994, he was the son of Mark and Carolyn (Connell) Scollard of Lynnfield.

Evan grew up in Lynnfield and was a graduate of St. John’s Preparatory School, Class of 2013. During high school, he impressively wrote his first novel, and frequently volunteered his time at the Northeast Animal Shelter. He matriculated to Trinity College, graduating cum laude in 2017 with a degree in psychology and anthropology. He spent the fall semester of his sophomore year studying abroad at University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Evan took advantage of every opportunity presented to him at Trinity, receiving two grants, becoming a member of the academic honor fraternity, Gamma Sigma Alpha, and the International Honor Society, Psi Chi, as well as becoming a brother in the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and serving as president of Greek life. Additionally, Evan was the editor of the Tripod Trinity Newspaper and was a fellow at the Churchill Institute.

After Trinity, Evan attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, where he was commissioned as an Officer in the United States Navy in October of 2017 and stationed in San Diego serving aboard the USS Boxer.

He was most known for his determination, drive, and zest for life, accomplishing and experiencing more in his 23 years than most do in a lifetime. His humor, quick wit, and captivating personality made him an instant favorite with everyone he met. He loved reading, the beach, music, and found immense joy in making people laugh. Above all, Evan cherished time spent with his family. As a son, he filled his parents with pride and unconditional love. He adored his sisters and valued his role as a big brother.

In addition to his parents, Mark and Carolyn, Evan is survived by his adoring sisters, Emily and Hannah Scollard and brother, Alex Roper. He was the beloved grandson of Rita (Mahoney) Connell and the late Robert Connell, and Cornelius and Alfreda Scollard. He was the loving nephew of Barbara Weldon and husband Chris, Kathleen McDonald and husband Bill, Joseph Connell and wife Kate, Paul Connell, Thomas Connell and wife Kathy, Susan Mosher and husband Ted, Charles Connell and wife Jen, Amy Peterson and husband Tom, Tracey Holmquist and husband Stephen, Karen Knowles and husband Peter, and Craig Scollard. He is also survived by many loving cousins and countless friends.

His funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut St., Lynnfield on Wednesday, April 4. Visitation for relatives and friends was held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Lynnfield.
