Former Lynnfield town clerk was interested in community’s history

LYNNFIELD — Jessica J. “Jessie” (Pokorski) Gutowski, 95, beloved wife of the late Eugene M. Gutowski, passed into eternal rest on Friday, April 20, 2018.

Born in 1922, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Antoinette (Horodzscna) Pokorski. Jessie graduated from Jamaica Plain High School and continued her education at Salve Regina College.

Jessie and her husband Eugene had a deep commitment to the town of Lynnfield, where they had resided for over 60 years. Jessie served as both assistant town clerk and town clerk respectively for 20 years.

She was also the secretary to the Lynnfield Finance Committee, Zoning Boards of Appeals and the Conservation Commission.

She and her husband were members of the Lynnfield Bicentennial Committee and past presidents of the Lynnfield Couples Club.

Jessie was an avid gardener and a member of various garden clubs. Her love of history and commitment to town government fostered her interest in the history of Lynnfield, the preservation of its historical records and working with the Lynnfield Historical Society. Jessie also assisted in the updating and publication of the bicentennial edition of the “History of Lynnfield” by Thomas Wellman.

She is survived by her daughter Jane Gutowski-Connell and her husband Brendan; her grandchildren Nicholas and Spencer; her sister-in-law Dorothy Pokorski; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Kathleen; and her siblings Stacia McManus, Stephanie Whitaker, Joseph Pokorski and John Pokorski.

Relatives and friends were invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial in St. Maria Goretti Church, Lynnfield on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Lynnfield.

Visiting hours were from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to the Mass.
