Enjoyed summers at Hampton Beach with children and grandchildren

WAKEFIELD — Joseph R. Relihan, 89, a Wakefield resident for the past 57 years, died on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the Windrose Monarch Homes in Woburn.

Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on November 4, 1928, he was the son of the late James T. and Mary (O’Connell) Relihan.

Mr. Relihan was a graduate of Fairfield Prep School, Class of 1947 and St. Thomas College. He had retired in 1993 as a sales manager for 25 years for Carolina Freight. Mr. Relihan was the co-founder and longtime treasurer of Wakefield Youth Basketball. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and Celtics fan. His passion was attending all the grandkids sporting events and activities. Mr. Relihan enjoyed spending his summers in Hampton Beach, N.H. with his children and grandchildren.

He was the beloved husband of the late Marilyn A. (Peabody) Relihan. He was the loving father of Steven Relihan and wife Kathy of Wakefield; Robert Relihan of Lynnfield; Jane Kerhulas of North Reading; and Scott Relihan of North Andover. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and his brother James Relihan of Orange, Conn.

Visitation for relatives and friends was held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday, May 12., followed by a funeral Mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield. Interment took place at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
