WAKEFIELD — Patrick J. “Jake” Caven, 77, of Wakefield, died on Monday, July 29, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Born in Somerville in 1942, he was the son of the late Patrick W. and Hannah (Daly) Caven.

Pat lived by one rule: Family first. He lived his life in service to others and found no greater joy than being able to lend a helping hand to family and friends or to talk about his children and grandchildren. Mr. Caven proudly served four years in the United States Air Force and went on to have a successful career of many years as a salesman in the office product industry. His favorite hobby was karate, which he studied for over 25 years, earning a second degree Black Belt. Pat and his wife loved to travel and enjoyed many wonderful vacations.

Mr. Caven is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Elizabeth A. (Latanzio) Caven. He is also survived by his two devoted children: Brian P. Caven and his wife Jean of Dover, New Hampshire; and Lisa M. DiCorato and her husband Michael of Lynnfield. He is also survived by his two loving granddaughters Juliana and Adriana; his sister Mary Flood of Marion; and his brother David Caven of Medford. He was predeceased by his brother John Caven.

His funeral was held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday, Aug. 5, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield. Interment was at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield. Visitation for relatives and friends was at the funeral home on Sunday, Aug. 4.
