Navy veteran served in World War II

LYNNFIELD — Wilbur T. Penniston, 92, a longtime resident of Lynnfield, died Sunday, October 7, at Salem Hospital.

Born in Hooker, Oklahoma on August 18, 1925, he was the son of the late Theodore and Jennie (Gibson) Penniston.

Wilbur was raised and educated in Glendale, California, where he later enlisted and served in the United States Navy during World War II. Wilbur was retired from the former Eastern Airlines, where he had worked as a rampman for many years.

He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara D. (Lee) Penniston. He is also survived by his two sons, Robert J. Penniston and his wife Nadine of Methuen; and Michael F. Penniston and wife Sandra of Saugus. Wilbur is also survived by his granddaughter Dawn Penniston Murray and her husband Lucas of Hingham. He is also survived by his great grandson Finnegan M. Murray and a step great granddaughter Lanna Quairoz.

Private funeral services were held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield. Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield.
