MELROSE — A man wearing a blue surgical-style mask robbed the Santander Bank in downtown Melrose Saturday morning.

According to Police Chief Michael L. Lyle, at approximately 9 a.m., the suspect — described as a white male, 45-50 years old, wearing a gray zip up hooded sweatshirt, gray pants and a knit cap — came into the bank and passed a note to the teller demanding the teller put money in a brown paper CVS bag.

The suspect, who was also wearing a blue surgical-style mask and black glasses with what appears to be rhinestones on the front portion of the frames, fled northbound on Main Street with a quantity of cash.

No one was injured, and no weapon was shown.
