MELROSE — You will soon notice some new markings on city streets as officials work to make it easier — and safer — for bicyclists to co-exist with motorists.

Scheduled to begin around the first of May, the painted markings will help establish two distinct bike routes between the Wakefield line in Greenwood and Wyoming Avenue. The roughly $23,000 project is funded by the state through a Complete Streets grant.

There will be one straight shot route along Main Street for more confident riders, and another that meanders through neighborhoods for those in search of a little safer ride.
