MELROSE — The Polymnia Choral Society’s Cabaret evenings have become popular, winter-blues-dispelling, enthusiastically anticipated events. The fifth fun-filled Cabaret evening will be held on Saturday, January 26. There will be two Cabaret performances, at 5 and 8 p.m., at the Temple Beth Shalom, 21 E. Foster St., Melrose.
Come to the Cabaret, the Fifth. This show has proven in recent years to be a successful, talent-filled fundraiser that underwrites various expenses for the community chorus, now in its 65th season, and provides Polymnia a way to say “thank you” to its generous supporters. In a venue less formal and more intimate than a concert hall, the Cabaret offers Polymnians and their supporters an opportunity to share music and merrymaking for an evening of talent and fun.
Come to the Cabaret to see your neighbors perform. Several Polymnia members from Melrose and surrounding communities will be in the spotlight for the production, including Robin Eriksen, Eileen Christiansen, Tug Yourgrau, Elli St. George, and Brendan Carroll from Melrose; Steve Francis, Eileen Worthley, and Birlyn Flint from Wakefield; Brother Richard Cook from Malden; Joanne Colella Boag and Katrina Faulstich from Woburn. Polymnia’s Music Director Murray Kidd will also perform and all the performers will be accompanied by Melrose’s own outstanding pianist Dorothy Travis.
Come to the Cabaret for an evening of fun and light music: Broadway favorites, pop songs, folk tunes, and ballads; solos, duets, and ensemble numbers. Come to the Cabaret to hear an old political tune from 1905 and several 40s and 50s classics such as “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” “Stormy Weather,” “Our Love is Here to Stay,” “Mona Lisa,” as well as more modern tunes from shows Wicked and Ragtime.
Come to the Cabaret to hear performances by former winners of Polymnia’s “Spotlight on High School Talent” Maria Tramontozzi and Lauren Abramson. The Spotlight on High School Talent is a program to encourage high school students from all over Greater Boston to grow artistically, whether their talent be singing, dancing, playing an instrument, composition, or acting. The competition offers the winner the opportunity to perform in a future Polymnia Concert. Music Director Kidd and Accompanist Dorothy Travis hold the auditions and mentor the winners.
The Temple Beth Shalom setting will capture the ambiance of a club, and the evening will include a raffle or silent auction, snacks, and a cash bar. Wine and beer will be served.
